Deli visited by Jeremy Clarkson caught up in meat scare
Jeremy Clarkson's favourite deli was caught up in a 'killer' brain inflammation scare after recalling a range of ham sold by stores including Ocado.
Multi-millionaire motor show presenter Jeremy, model Kate Moss and actress Gwyneth Paltrow often visit Daylesford's organic farm shop.
It's a favourite with the so-called Chipping Norton set and has been described as the 'Harvey Nicks of the Cotswolds'.
The Government's Food Standards Agency said Daylesford, based outside Stow-on-the-Wold, Glos, is recalling its rosemary and thyme-flavoured roast ham and its smoked black ham products 'because of the presence of listeria monocytogenes'.

The FSA said symptoms caused by this organism can be similar to flu and include high temperature, muscle ache or pain, chills, feeling or being sick and diarrhoea.
But 'in rare cases' the agency warned the infection can be more severe, causing serious complications, such as meningitis and can lead to inflammation of the lining of the brain and spinal cord.
The Meningitis Research Foundation's website warns that if untreated, meningitis, the inflammation of the lining around the brain and spinal cord, and septicaemia, the blood poisoning form of the disease, 'can kill within hours'.

Model Kate Moss (pictured left and right) is also known to frequent the store. The Food Standards Agency said: 'The risk is the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed'
Top online delivery firm Ocado, which is part-owned by the John Lewis Partnership who run Waitrose, lists the two products on its website today.
The FSA said Daylesford, based near Stow-on-the-Wold, Glos, is 'recalling Rosemary & Thyme Roast Ham and Smoked Black Ham because listeria monocytogenes has been found in the products'.
It said all pack sizes of rosemary and thyme roast ham with use-by dates of July 20th, 2017, and July 25th, 2017, are affected by the recall.
With Daylesford smoked black ham, all pack sizes with use-by dates of July 20th, 2017, and July 25th, 2017, are in the recall.
'No other Daylesford products are known to be affected' added the FSA.Â

'The risk is the presence of Listeria monocytogenes in the products listed.
'Some people are more vulnerable to listeria infections, including those over 65 years of age, pregnant women and their unborn babies, babies less than one month old and people with weakened immune systems.
'If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return to the store from where they were bought for a full refund.'
The FSA added 'Action taken by the company...Daylesford is recalling the above products. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling these products.
'These notices explain to customers why the products are being recalled and tell them what to do if they have bought the products.'
On the Ocado website today, a 110gm pack of Daylesford organic rosemary and thyme roasted ham is listed at £4.50.Â

The Ocado website entry includes the following from Daylesford, which according to its website was founded more than 30 years ago:Â 'We make our hams the traditional way in very small batches, from whole legs of organic outdoor-reared Gloucestershire pork, raised just a few miles from our farm.
'The pigs are bred to be hardy and outdoor-loving, producing heavy, succulent and tender hams from a wild, foraged diet.
'We take our time over the curing process, using traditional artisan methods and we allow the flavours to develop fully.
'Because we're organic, our hams are free from unnecessary chemicals and GM, we don't need any of the flavour enhancers and water commonly injected in to factory produced ham. We use a blend of curing salts, whole spices, herbs and time-tested artisan skills instead.

'We believe organic is better for our health, our animals and the environment; and of course always tastes better.
'The fragrant herbs & garlic infused into this ham pair well with soft cheese, tomatoes & artichokes. Delicious in sandwiches, salads & eggs benedict. Keep refrigerated 0-5°C. Once opened use within 2 days.'
Daylesford issued a statement saying 'During routine laboratory analysis of our ham production, listeria monocytogenes has been detected in a small number of samples.
'Therefore the company, as a precautionary measure, has decided to recall two of our hams with the following use by dates:
Rosemary & Thyme Roast Ham, 20th July and 25 July 2017
Smoked Black Ham, 20th July 2017 and 25th July 2017
'If you have purchased any of the above hams with those use by dates, please do not consume and return to your local Daylesford Farmshop for a full refund.
'All other Daylesford hams are not affected and are not subject to a product recall.'
