Girl dies after cardiac arrest at Coate Water County Park

A teenage girl died after she suffered a cardiac arrest at a country park.
The air ambulance was called to Coate Water Country Park in Swindon to reports a 17-year-old was in cardiac arrest, but she was pronounced dead at the scene at around 7.30pm on Friday.
Locked gates at the nature reserve reportedly delayed the emergency services reaching the teenager.
Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to the park to break through padlocked gates after paramedics were unable to reach the emergency near the children's play area.Â

Witness Trevor Baker told Wiltshire 999s: 'It's very sad that such a young person has sadly lost her life however…. my partner and I were walking our dog last night and saw this happening and the bit that disgusts me is the ambulance couldn't get access due to locked gates.
'I saw the paramedics at the scene then another paramedic running with a defibrillator across the park helped by a Gurkha who was out running (top bloke).
'Why do the emergency services not have keys to all park gates allowing them access…maybe the outcome may have been different.'
A spokesman for Wiltshire Police said: 'We attended Coate Water in Swindon at approximately 7.30pm on Friday evening following a report from the air ambulance that a 17-year-old girl was in cardiac arrest.
'Sadly, the girl was pronounced dead at the scene. The death is not believed to be suspicious.
'A file will now be prepared for HM Coroner for Wiltshire.
'Our thoughts remain with the girl's family and friends at this extremely difficult time.'Â
