Nip and tuck with Dr Tracy Mountford: Hate my filler
- A woman has had fillers injected in her cheeks but now hates themÂ
- The fillers apparently look 'unnatural' and she wonders if she can reverse them
- Dr Tracy Mountford says it is possible to have the injections dissolved
Q: I had fillers injected in my cheeks a few months ago, but Iâm not happy with the result. It looks very unnatural and over-filled â" is there anything I can have done to reverse it?
A: The good news is that most filler injections can usually be dissolved if they are made of hyaluronic acid. Two popular brands of filler, Juvederm and Restylane, are both made of this.
The only problem would be if a permanent filler was used, as there is no way to dissolve it.Â

Luckily, itâs very rare for doctors in the UK to use permanent fillers. My advice would be to see a skilled cosmetic doctor who can dissolve the filler with hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid.Â
It is routinely used in cosmetic medicine and is well tolerated, it works very quickly and often patients will see an improvement immediately.
The procedure takes only a few moments. It may leave a bit of swelling or bruising.
