Tumble-down carport transformed into dwelling in Cornwall
A former carport-turned-luxury dwelling is being advertised as the perfect place for holidaymakers to park themselves for the night.
But before undergoing an extensive renovation, the quirky structure in north Cornwall looked a little less appealing with cracks in the concrete and weeds climbing the walls.
Now however, the one-bed property - which is being rented for more than £400 a night during peak season - boasts an array of ritzy features including a hot tub, a built-in barbecue and yoga deck. Â
An old carport in Cornwall was just a shell before it was transformed into a luxury dwellingÂ

The former carport and an attached workshop at the end of a winding country lane near to Perranporth beach was on a plot of land next to a thatched cottage, which holiday letting company Unique Home Stays bought.
It was a basic structure of concrete and timber with a wall on one side and the other three sides open.
It was knocked down and the new property was created from scratch on a similar, but slightly extended, footprint measuring about 33 feet by 20 feet.
Unique Home Stays used a bird hide shelter as the inspiration with quirky stick-out windows that allow guests to stargaze from the bed and lighting designed to replicate the effect of sunlight through trees.Â

The property has been decked out with high-end furnishings. The bedroom features ample storage space, with in-built wardrobes crafted out of rustic wood

Even the tub in the bathroom has been crafted out of concrete to complete the industrial lookÂ

There is one bedroom with a king-size bed. In the en-suite bathroom there is a cast concrete bath, open rain shower with garden views and an impressive wooden double sink.Â
Outside it has a covered deck and a hand-crafted concrete barbecue and a large corner seating area complete with fire pit. There is also a raised deck with a hot tub and far-reaching valley views.
Commenting on the build project, designer Jess Clark of Unique Home Stays, said: 'The company bought a thatched cottage and it had this carport on land next to it.
'We thought it was a bit of a waste for the space, it was a really basic structure.
'We came up with a design for what we would really like to do but werenât that optimistic about getting it through planning and we were pleasantly surprised when it did.
'I designed something inspired by a bird hide, which has the flapable windows you can peek out of.
'A lot of my projects are quite rustic so I wanted to do something a bit more minimal and modern. I use a lot of wood so I wanted to do something that contrasted yet complemented that.Â

The Hide is the second property Unique Home Stays has built from scratch. It opened to bookings two weeks ago and is already booked for all of August and most of September

'We used little square windows to create this dappled light effect, like walking through the woods. I wanted it to feel like you are immersed with nature.
'The hard part of the project was getting things down the little lane. It took three men to get the huge trough for the bath in.
'Although itâs mostly concrete the property is really warm and cosy. Thereâs a lot of texture in the fabrics and the lighting creates a cosy warm glow.
'And in the summer when itâs hot inside you can throw the doors open. You feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, itâs really relaxing and hidden away down the lane.
'When youâre in there you look out across the green of the garden with the hills and rolling countryside beyond.
'Itâs really handy because itâs close to everywhere but you feel like youâre somewhere really remote.'
Unique Home Stays mostly has holiday lets owned by individuals but owns 12 properties itself.
The Hide is only the second the company has built from scratch.
It opened to bookings two weeks ago and is already booked for all of August and most of September. Prices start from £880 for a three-night weekend stay, up to £2,350 a week in peak summer season.    Â
