Cottage that used to be part of Bootle Station on sale
This charming cottage that used to serve as a waiting room at little-used Bootle Station where trains still stop today has gone on the market for £215,000.
Station cottage, a short distance from Scafell Pike, overlooks the platform where passengers simply hold out their arm if they want to flag down a train.
Although the waiting shelter on the platform is situated away from the cottage, current owner Martin Freeman is well-used to seeing people outside his kitchen window when the sun is shining.

Behind the cottage is a private rear garden with lawn, various fruit trees, shed, woodstore and stone out building
Mr Freeman, 60, a retired school teacher, has lived in the two-bedroom house for four years.
From 6.40am in the morning until 7.30pm, a Northern Rail train passes through the station every hour, except on Sundays.

Bootle Station lies on the scenic Cumbrian Coast line that travels from Carlisle to Barrow-in-Furness.
The inside of the property was renovated and extended when it was bought by its current owner four years agoÂ

Mr Freeman said: 'A train passes by once an hour and stops right outside the house. I quite often pop out and chat to the driver.
'When it passes through it is very slow and is very quiet.
'The property itself is totally private but the platform isn't. There is a shelter further along the platform but when the weather is nice people tend to stand by the house and I pass the time of day with them.
'It's not a busy station, you get a handful of people using it a day and the last train is at 7.30pm. The walls are thick and with the double glazing you can't really hear the trains inside.'
Trains pass by the property daily, but the cottage overlooking it has been converted into a quirky two-bedroom home
The property, built in the 1850s, is made of red granite and sandstone.Â
In March 1945 it was the scene of a tragic war-related accident when a wagon containing depth charges in a caught fire when approaching the station.Â
The driver, Harold Goodall, was trying to put the blaze out when the charges detonated, killing him instantly.Â
When it stopped being manned in 1962, the station master bought the railway building and the stationmaster's house.
After he purchased it four years ago, Mr Freeman renovated the home and extended it so it now has two spacious double bedrooms, both en suite and a modern kitchen dining room. It still has the original station clock.

'It's about a 20-minute walk from the beach, which is stunning. It has a lovely little village community, it's the ideal place to live.'

The property is not in the village of Bootle but the nearby hamlet of Hycemoor in the Lake District National Park, surrounded by countryside.
It has a large private garden to the back and an allotment beside the station platform.
Gareth Hammond, from Hatched Estate Agents, said: 'It is a magnificent little property, very quirky and deceptively spacious inside.
'The house sits literally at the station, but it is incredibly picturesque.
'It may not appeal to everyone but for someone looking for something a little left-field, in a quiet and wonderfully located Cumbrian village, there is no other choice.
'Equally, anyone who is a train enthusiast need look no further.
'While it would be easy for some to dismiss the property simply because of the rail line I would very much advise taking the time to have a look as to see it is to love it.'Â
