Aldi's premium washing up liquid beats Fairy Liquid
Discount chain Aldi recently beat its rivals to pick up the award of best own-brand food of any supermarket.Â
Now the budget store can claim its premium washing up liquid is strong enough to come out on top against its rivals. Â
The supermarket's own premium washing up liquid made the top three best buys for consumer body Which?, beating Fairy Liquid Original.
While Fairy boasts it is '50 per cent longer lasting than the next best-selling brand', when pitted against the supermarket own brand, only its Fairy Platinum range ranks above Aldi's 75p version.Â
Which? rigorously tests the washing up liquid by reviewing fat removal, tough grease removal and foam duration
Director of research at Which? Nikki Stopford explains Aldi's product popularity to presenter Andi Osho in Channel 4's Supershoppers, a consumer show which uncovers the tricks of the retail trade.
'Weâre finding increasingly that supermarket own labels or discounted brands are performing just as well as the big brands.Â
'When we look at Aldi across the last year, a third of the products weâve tested have turned out to be best buys.'
Which? rigorously tests washing up liquid by reviewing each for how well it removes fat, how well it tackles tough grease and how long the foam lasts.
'The Aldi product performed well in terms of foam, duration and of the three that we're currently recommending the Aldi product is half the price of the Fairy product,' Nikki added.
Aldi's Magnum Premium typically retails for 75p, whereas Fairy Platinum according to Which? typically costs £1.27 and the Fairy Original £1.30.
Sales last year of Fairy Liquid reached £125million, but shoppers are still willing to try out own brands with £32million being spent on supermarket own b rand liquid.

The budget supermarket beat upmarket rivals such as Marks & Spencer by winning a total of 40 awards at The Grocer's Own Label Food & Drink Awards 2017.
And in second place with fellow discount chain Lidl, which won 28 prizes in total, including a gong for a luxury brie cheese that costs just 99p.
