This is the remarkable moment a bone dry stream slowly fills up to transform into a fast-flowing torrent in a matter of minutes.

The video captures water slowly creeping along the stones in the far distance, through Kingsdale in the Yorkshire Dales after just a day of heavy rainfall.

The dry pebble bed can be seen becoming completely covered with water as livestock chew at the surrounding grassland without casting a second look at the feat of nature.

Part of the footage shows the water seeping underneath a shallow footbridge built ready for the waters.

The raging river flowing through Kingsdale comes after a day of heavy rainfall in the area.

The video was shot by a snow plough driver and mechanic for North Yorkshire County Council Thomas Beresford, 25, who spent an hour waiting for the river to finally fill up and captured the moment on camera.

Speaking about the footage, Mr Beresford, from Hawes, North Yorks., said: 'Water comes off all of the hills following little streams down into the valley of Kingsdale.

'The river Long Gill collects the rain and transports it down to the River Twiss. '

He added: 'I knew it was going to come - I waited an hour but worth it.'
