French President Emanuel Macron has been roundly mocked on social media over his first official portrait.
The seemingly innocuous image, which he shared with his 1.5m Twitter followers, shows him standing at his desk at the Elysee Palace in Paris flanked by French and EU flags - and his two smartphones. Â
But it has been reimagined by Photoshop users across the world who have portrayed the French president as everything from a weight lifter to one of the Village People in a series of hilarious memes.
Using the #PoseTonMacron hashtag, dozens have posted their versions of the portrait on social media.

The seemingly simple photo was reimagined into hilarious memes, including one poking fun at how he met his wife Brigitte when he was a schoolboy and she was his teacher
Another meme shows Macron, 39, as a very smartly dressed member of the Village People. The YMCA parody punned on the full name of his party, La République en marche (LREM) with the caption: 'It's fun to stay at the LREM!'
Another brilliant image shows Macron doing the 'Haka', a Maori war dance performed by the New Zealand rugby team before every match
In one of the most controversial memes, mirroring how he met his wife, Macron is depicted as a school pupil in a class being taught by Brigitte, 64.

As usual with presidential portraits, many commentators have been quick to analyse the contents of the original portrait.
The EU flag in the background, which is given equal prominence to the French tricolour, could be a nod to Macron's promise to his pro-EU sentiment.Â
While some political commentators analysed the significance of objects in the official portrait, one was content as editing him as a weightlifter instead

On the desk lies a book which, according to French media, contains the memoirs of iconic French President Charles de Gaulle.
The two mobile phones on the desk provide a more modern touch. Â A video posted on Twitter by Elysee spokeswoman Sibeth Ndiaye shows him quite deliberately placing the devices on the table.
Citing previous presidential portraits, the Telegraph gives prominence to the location of the shoot.
While Nicolas Sarkozy posed in the palace's grand library for a formal shot, the likes of Jacques Chirac and François Hollande went for the casual look - as Macron appears to have done.Â
'This is not the picture of a President, this is a picture of a guy in a garden,' one comment er was quoted as saying in French newspaper.
Macron has won over millions with his unconventional methods since being worn in as France's youngest ever president last month.
He is candidly affectionate towards his wife Brigitte, 25 years his senior, famously kissing her after defeating far-right politician Marine Le Pen to the presidency.Â

Macron's conservative rival Francois Fillon became entangled in financial scandals during the election, one of which was over a gift from a wealthy businessman who gave him two tailor-made suits worth around €13,000.
He recently launched an extraordinary attack on two Russian state media outlets -claiming they acted as 'propaganda' organs during his election campaign - in front of a televised press conference with President Vladimir Putin.Â
