One person has died with several more injured after a man drove a vehicle into a crowd in the Finnish capital of Helsinki.

Several others were treated at the scene which was briefly sealed off by the authorities.

Police superintendent Patrik Karlsson said that there are no indications the incident was terrorism.

Finland is ranked as the safest country in the world, according to the World Economic Forum.

But recent news of terror-related activity caused the Finnish Security Intelligence Service to raise its threat level last month.

In an effort to prevent vehicle-related attacks, the city has begun erecting concrete barriers.
