A magistrate who drove a 12-year-old boy to a car park under his court for regular sex abuse sessions has been jailed for seven and a half years.

Rodney Fox, 49, who had special access to the area under Reading magistrates' court would drive the boy there when he knew it would be deserted.

The primary school teaching assistant befriended the boy and took him to a computer club on Saturdays, grooming him until he plucked up the courage to attack him.

St Albans Crown Court heard that on five separate occasions he kissed the boy, before pulling down his tracksuit bottoms to perform an act of oral sex on him.

Jailing Fox, Judge Stephen Warner told him: 'For many months he was too confused and scared to tell hi s mother. He was not able to talk about what you had done him.

'Finally he found the courage to speak to a teacher after he contemplated throwing himself in front of a car that reminded him of your car. That is the effect your behaviour had on him.'

When he was arrested the police one Category A indecent image of a child on his computer - that being the most serious level.

Jailed: A court heard how part-time magistrate Rodney Fox groomed a 12-year-old boy and sexually assaulted him beneath a car park

There were also Category C images, the least serious level.

Fox, of Northumberland Avenue, Reading, appeared for sentence at St Albans crown court having being convicted of sexual activity with a child under 13, causing a child under 13 to engage in sexual activity and making indecent images of children.

Defending, John Simmons said Fox still denies committing the offences, but accepts the jury's verdict. He said the father of two's marriage was now over.

Mr Simmons said Fox had been of previous positive good character and had worked for charitable causes.

Jailing him, Judge Warner said: ' You have shown no remorse or acceptance of guilt. You obliged your victim to relive the experiences and give evidence. He did so with great courage and dignity.

'You have done good work over many years. It is a tragedy this offending has blighted your record as a respected member of the community. '

Fox must register as a sex offender for life and abide by the terms of a sexual harm prevention order. The former teaching assistant, who once gave safeguarding advice himself, will be barred from any further work in the classroom.
