A scientific accident has created a pleasurable outcome for women. 

Researchers have stumbled across a sex toy that helps women orgasm - although it was originally designed to have the opposite effect.

The 'vaginal pressure inducer' was created to stimulate discomfort in the quest to ease painful sex for women.

Despite not having an alluring name, a study found that the balloon contraption helps to increase sexual arousal - an unexpected outcome.

In a small trial on 42 women, Dutch researchers stumbled upon the unexpected outcome of the toy.

It was produced so that the team could study discomfort during sex, a problem that affects nearly three in five women, figures suggest. 

Known as dyspareunia, it is known to strike more often during the menopause due to lower oestrogen levels causing a lack of lubrication.

How was the study carried out? 

For the bizarre study, the women were asked to watch both porn and footage of a non-sexual nature . 

The volunteers, who had all experienced sexual discomfort in the past, then inserted the toy into their vaginas. 

From another room, scientists inflated the gadget - but gave women full control of being able to stop the pressure at any given moment.

What did they find? 

The researchers found women allowed the balloon to inflate significantly more when watching porn, International Business Times reports. 

THE DANGERS OF USING SEX TOYS

Sex toys contain fewer hormone-disrupting chem icals than children's toys, a study claimed in January.

Endocrine-disrupting chemicals are banned from use in products for children since studies show they increase one's risk of cancer, heart disease and obesity.

However, a study of 112 children's toys in Sweden found 15 per cent contained one or more of these banned substances - including lead.

Meanwhile, just two per cent of the 44 most popular sex toys in the country tested positive for dangerous chemicals.

Experts admitted they were shocked by the results - and warned the research emphasizes the need for more vigorous health regulation of kids' products. 

They even claimed to be more aroused when watching the erotic films with the sex toy - rather than without. 

Howeve r, the findings weren't repeated for non-sexual clips. In this case, the vaginal pressure inducer still caused pain.

Maastricht University experts found mixed reactions among the women, with some saying it wasn't very pleasant, while others called it 'stimulating'.

Initial support for the device 

Writing in the Journal of Sex and Marital Therapy, they said: 'The current findings indicate the importance of sexual stimuli for the heightening of unpleasantness thresholds as well as the increase of pleasurableness of vaginal pressure.

'Explicit sexual stimuli fortified the pleasurableness of vaginal pressure paralleled by an increase of subjective sexual arousal.

'The results provide initial support of the vaginal pressure inducer as a device to investigate v arious determinants of the tolerance and pleasurable appraisal of vaginal pressure in a context of sexual arousal.'

Last August, experts said the new generation of dildos are vulnerable because they are connected to the internet.

They said hackers could exploit the web connection which links up to an app and allows your partner to pleasure you from anywhere in the world.
