Barrow thug who swore at police for 14 minutes is jailedÂ
Yob: Stephen Greenhalgh unleashed a sickening tirade at British Transport Police officers who arrested him for abusing passengers of a train in Cumbria
A foul-mouthed yob verbally abused police for 14 minutes in a sickening tirade after a meltdown on a train.
Stephen Greenhalgh unloaded the appalling rant at officers, who remained calm despite him calling them nearly every abusive name he could think of.
In a shocking example of what police officers have to put up with, Greenhalgh taunts them: 'You've already cuffed me so you can't do me for assaulting a f****** officer.'
He threatens to 'splatter' one officer 'all over the f****** pavement' and claims officers are 'f****** shaking like f****** leaves'.
Greenhalgh, of Barrow, was jailed for 30 days at Furness Magistratesâ Court af ter he admitted being abusive and threatening to passengers onboard a train in breach of a criminal behaviour order.
Greenhalgh was on the 5.37pm Carlisle-Barrow train on June 5 when he began swearing, making threats and smoking onboard the rush-hour service in front of disgusted commuters.
As the train pulled into Workington, the conductor reported the incident by calling ahead to British Transport Police who arranged to meet the train when it arrived at Barrow.
When the carriages pulled into Barrow, where PC Adam Heslop and his colleague were waiting for Greenhalgh.
While PC Heslop waited with Greenhalgh for cops from Barrow to turn up and take him to the cells, he became verbally abusive towards both British Transport Police officers.
PC Heslop, who refused to be drawn into an argument throughout, switched on his radi o to record the rant.
Greenhalgh can be heard hurling possibly every swear word known to man at the two officers, and at one point even admits: âIâm on drugs me, all the time.â
Greenhalgh, of Barrow, was previously given a two-year behaviour order last June after assaulting a neighbour and spitting in a womanâs hair.
The order prohibits him from using abusive, insulting, threatening or intimidating language or behaviour within the sight or hearing of a person not of the same household.
Abuse: Greenhalgh was arrested at Barrow station before subjected officers to the taunts
Greenhalgh was jailed for 30 days and ordered to pay a £115 victim surcharge.
A spokesman for British Transport Police said: 'Threatening and abusive behaviour will never be tolerated on the railway network.
'This incident shows the commitment officers demonstrate when responding to calls from the public, often in very troubling situations.Â
'If anyone ever experiences similar behaviour they can report it to BTP discreetly by sending a text to 61016. In an emergency always dial 999.'Â
