Keyboard warriors are always on high alert to challenge any claim they think might be a little spurious or to take on someone claiming to be an 'expert'.

But - whether online or in real life - it's always a good idea to double check who you're speaking to before you open your mouth or click that mouse, as these hilarious posts prove. 

Bored Panda has compiled a collection of the funniest occasions people embarrassed themselves by not realising who they were talking to, including a promoter from an LA radio station who offered Annie Lennox some airplay. 

Another disgruntled social media user complained about a picture of a 'hispter chick' wearing a Star Wars t-shirt when she probably hadn't seen the films - not realising she was Natalie Portman. 

And a Twitter user responded to a concerned commenter's post about climate change, saying she should learn some actual science.

Unfortunately, they didn't realise they were contacting someone with a PHD in astrophysics.
