Expert shares secrets to having great sex as parents
Parenting is hard enough without the added havoc that it can bring to a once-flourishing love life.
But according to Australian sexologist Dr Nikki Goldstein there are some simple tricks that can help re-ignite the passion once a couple has children.
'First, you need to give yourself a break. And by break, I mean stop trying to be perfect, parenting is hard enough,' Nikki wrote for Body and Soul.

'Once you take the pressure of things outside of the bedroom, things in the bedroom might feel manageable.'
According to Nikki, in the early days of parenthood, it's important for couples to consider alternatives to simply having sex.
'Instead of penetration sex, think of ways you can touch, as touching releases similar hormones to sex. Can you embrace in bed, lay on the couch between meals and enjoy bedtime together?' she wrote. 'Hold hands when you are out and about and kiss passionately.'

The expert said these simple tools could help reignite a woman's sexual desire after childbirth.
Another important aspect, according to Nikki is to embrace the quickie.
'Some people complain about this short period for sex, but it can be very exciting,' she wrote. 'Often itâs primal, feels a little naughty and can be in more adventurous locations and positions.'
Discovering the 'golden hour' that can work for you is also crucial, she said.
'Many couples have a routine at night... This is where you need to place importance on your sex life and put it above chores and Netflix,' Nikki said (stock image)
'Many couples have a routine at night. They put the kids to bed and then continue to do their own chores or catch up on some TV... This is where you need to place importance on your sex life and put it above chores and Netflix.'
Last month, a survey by Australia's leading sex toy retailer, Lovehoney, found that most couples fall into a routine after about two years together - leading to a decrease in love and intimacy.Â
Talking about the survey results, international sex expert Tracey Cox said it showed that keeping a healthy sexual life long-term requires effort.Â
Tracey said the best way to save a relationship that might be lacking in the intimacy department is to go away for a weekend every six weeks.
'It doesnât need to be expensive, just g et you out of your usual environment where all the problems are (work, money, kids, stress),' she said.

'Make a pact with other couples to take turns and look after each otherâs kids and if a weekend is too ambitious, aim for one night, once a month in a decent hotel nearby.'
Having fun is what ignites that first spark in many relationships, so it's important to keep that fun alive!
'Once people decide theyâre serious about each other, they start getting serious about life: get a mortgage, have kids,' Tracey said.
'The relationship moves from âfunâ to âfunctionalâ: we stop concentrating on the relationship and concentrate on work and money.'
Expert Tracey Cox has said it's important to think of your sex life like a bank account. 'You need to make regular deposits to keep the balance healthy,' she said. (stock image)
'Get into the habit of planning at least two new activities to do together a month: theatre, a show, trying new restaurants, watching films.'
She said it was important to think of your sex life as a bank account.
'You need to make regular deposits to keep the balance healthy,' Tracey said.
If you've taken that weekend off or asked your parents to mind the kids for a weekend of passion, your bank balance is 'nicely topped up.
'But if you havenât made a deposit for six weeks or more, that balance is getting dangerously low.'Â Â
