A mother has been deluged with replies after a Facebook appeal to help her son who has autism find a job.

Juliet Hughes, 54, took to Facebook to try and and find a job for her son Adam, 27, after a number of unsuccessful job interviews.

Adam has high functioning autism which makes dealing with high pressure environments, such as job interviews, challenging for him.

In her appeal Ms Hughes, who lives in Penarth, in the Vale of Glamorgan, said: 'He really wants to work, and hates signing on.

'He needs paid employment, as he needs a little bit of income.

'He is very likeable, hardworking and reliable. His hobbies include A m Dram (he has had several lead type roles!) and fighting for equal rights for all.

'Adam struggles in high pressure environments and crowds. He enjoys routine, so regular same, even mundane tasks would be ideal for him.

'It has been very hard to watch him being crushed and being rejected time after time.

'All he needs is a chance, please let me know if you have any contacts that could help.'

After posting the appeal last Thursday it has been shared 1,200 times.

Many people have commented on the post with job adverts and contact details for potential employers.

Adam, who lives with his mother and sister Emily, 25, was studying drama at Cardiff and Vale College but had to leave before completing the course.

Ms Hughes said: 'The college felt that the work wo uld be too much for him.

'Although it crushed Adam, I respect their decision and I don't want him to be an external student as he wants to work so much.'

Although he would eventually like to find his way into background extra work, he is now happy with more regular part or full-time work.

'He just has so much to give so I am sure somebody, somewhere must have the perfect position for him,' Ms Hughes said.

She added: 'I have had some offers but some just aren't appropriate for his needs, but people have really gone out of their way to help him.

'I know that in the right position somebody would be lucky to have him. He's a hard worker, and if you told him to pull his socks up, he would just pull his socks up.'

Adam said: 'I am so grateful for the support of people on Facebook.

'So many people are trying to be helpful and it was really quite heartwarming to see.

'I was hoping to get a job within the performing arts industry as an extra, but I'm also keen to get something more regular part-time or full-time.'

He added: 'Something in the Vale of Glamorgan or Cardiff [would be great] but I will do absolutely anything.'
