Beaconsfield woman loses more than 12 stone

A woman who spent 13 years 'significantly overweight' has transformed her life by shedding an incredible 12 stone 7 lbs in two years.

Rosalynn Bartlett, 40 from Beaconsfield, Buckinghamshire weighed a staggering 24 stone 4 lbs but gave little thought to her weight until it started affecting her health.

At her heaviest, the head of finance was suffering from chronic backache, breathlessness and swollen ankles as a result of her size.

But since embarking on a gruelling diet and fitness regime in January 2015, Rosalynn has slimmed down to a size 12 - and is now preparing to run her first half marathon.

Rosalynn told MailOnline: ‘I had gained enough that my weight was affecting my life, with swollen ankles, breathlessness and constant backache I found that I could not do the things that I wanted to do.

'This was particularly brought home when I went on holiday in 2014 to a Spa and wellness resort and found the what I could do was limited compared to what I had been able to do in the past.’

When Rosalynn got home from her holiday, she made the decision to get healthy again before her health could worsen.

‘I realised that I placed more value on my car and home then I did on myself,' she said. 'This was stupid, as I would n’t put diesel in my petrol car but I would fill myself with rubbish food and expect everything to work fine.’

In January 2015 Rosalynn began to change her diet and started exercising, but she soon realised it wouldn't be an overnight transformation.

‘I realised that this needed to be a long-term change as I realised that to lose 14 stone would take me a considerable time and I would not be able to sustain a radical plan that long,' she said.

‘I started with just a couple of changes, including logging my food intake, prepping food for the week ahead and joining a weekly Zumba class.

'I found that once this was a routine then I would add additional changes over time, like eating more veg, walking up the stairs or drinking less wine. Over time the weight began to go.’

After the first 12 months, her new lifestyle became easier: ‘After a year I found that I didn’t feel like I was on a diet, but t hat I was just living normally,’ Rosalynn said.

Now, more than 12 stone lighter and still slimming, Rosalynn is feeling more confident than ever.

‘My life has changed dramatically in that prior to losing weight I would sit around and lead a very sedentary life even when meeting friends,' she explained.

'Now I am much more active, with running, swimming and generally I just want to be out and about all the time. And of course it is great being able to get into a size 12!’

Rosalynn, who is currently training for her first half marathon (13.1 miles), added: ‘I started running in August 2016 a s I wanted to run 5k, with a view that maybe I would go to 10k at some point in the future.

'I used a 5k running app to help me and in February 2017 I achieved this first target and, without really thinking about it I just carried on adding kilometres until over the Easter weekend I managed 10k.’

‘By this point I had completely got the running bug and immediately began to think about the next challenge to achieve, and a half marathon came to mind.'
