Bake Off trailer leaves fans divided

The first trailer for the Great British Bake Off since it left the BBC for Channel 4 has left fans divided.

The famous baking tent is nowhere to be seen in the short clip, which has been eagerly awaited by fans of the much-loved programme ever since it was announced the show would be moving from the BBC to Channel 4 in a three-year £75 million deal.

Instead, an assortment of pastries including croissants, doughnuts, loaves and tarts have been given faces and sing to Paul McCartney and the Frog Chorus's We All Stand Together.

But fans are split as to whether they like the stop-motion trailer, and say it appears to have been influenced by new host Noel Fielding's surrealist comedy show The Mighty Boosh.

Marie Anthony dubbed the trailer 'creepy' adding: 'Will be watching the new series but it won't be the same with all new changes.'

The quirky video has left some fans wondering if comedian Fielding has already had an influence over tone of the new series.

Lee Clifford posted: 'Did Noel Fielding create this advert? Looks like something from Mighty Boosh.'

Another fan wrote: 'That trailer is like Noel Fielding dropped acid and was given a pack of crayons and some paper. Literally the worst thing.'

But others were a little more impressed.

Emmy Griffiths wrote on Twitter: 'i like the trailer. i like it and i'm going to like £GBBO on C4 without mary berry even if it KILLS ME BECAUSE I NEED BAKE OFF IN MY LIFE.'

Another Twitter user wrote: 'I can't be the only person that likes it. I mean, cake and a Paul McCartney song, what's not to like.'

Jessica Rayner posted: 'I wanted to hate it but finding it really hard not to be won over by singing croissants.'

Carla Luxford wrote: 'Excellent start! Love the ad and the song.'

Channel 4 paid a reported £75 million for three years of the hit show, which scored 15 million viewers for last year's final where Candice Brown won on the BBC.

The new show will see judge Paul Hollywood return but national treasure Mary Berry famously quit when the programme left for Channel 4.

Instead, Prue Leith takes over the empty judging spot.

Comedian Fielding and QI host Sandi Toksvig will replace Mel Giedroyc and Sue Perkins, who also left the show when it moved from the BBC.

The show does not have an official launch date yet, but is due to air in the autumn.
