Born in Stone, Staffordshire, in 1971, Kirsty Roper's family were the proud owners of one of the world's largest manufacturers of ceramics, Churchill China.
Kirsty grew up riding horses, playing tennis and singing in local musicals. She was determined to be a singer-songwriter. She focused on music after leaving school, doing a bit of modelling on the side.Â
After gaining seven O levels at a private boarding school in North Wales, Kirsty joined a modelling agency in Manchester and went on to be named Miss UK at the age of 17 and second runner-up in Miss World.
But as well as being beautiful, Kirsty is also very talente d. At the age of 26, she was snapped up by Warner and co-wrote Black Coffee, a No. 1 hit for British girl-band All Saints.
Home was a trust-funded flat in South Kensington, London. She partied with the Sloane set - often dancing on the tables at Tramp.
Then, aged 26, on holiday, she met Ernesto, whoâd just inherited Serono, the pharmaceuticals company founded by his grandfather. And that was that.Â
The pair met in 1997 at a dinner party in a villa in Sardinia. âIt was love at first sight. You know, when you blush and it makes your heart pound â" there was definitely that. He was divine. He was a very beautiful, dishy man,' she told the Daily Mail.
The loved-up pair honeymooned at a safari run by Massai warriors, where she fell pregnant with her daughter Chiara, who is now 13. She later had Falco, now 9, and Alceo, 7.
By the year 2000, she had been named Britain's richest woman.
From there, she and her husband, who sold his family's company in 2006 for a cool £9m, embarked on a jet-set lifestyle. They lived in New Zealand and then Spain for Ernesto's yachting team, Alinghi, who went on to win the America's Cup twice.
Kirsty, who now splits her time between Switzerland and London, was signed by Universal in 2009, and she released her first single, Donât Say. A year later, she supported Simply Red at the 44th Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux, Switzerland.
She has gone on to make successful chart music and has performed before royalty.Â
Despite her fame and fortune, she's determined to remain down-to-earth and thanks her humble beginnings for t hat.
âI think my Midlands roots help,â she said. âItâs about having the right morals - to be humble, to appreciate what youâve got and to help other people with our foundation.
âWeâre a close-knit family and we all eat together in the kitchen. I cook shepherdâs pie and lamb shanks and roasts â" and do the school run. We donât have a nanny.
âIâm mummy and I put them to bed every night - each has their own special lullaby that I sing them. We do normal things.âÂ
