After getting a tattoo, many people will want to share their new design in smug social media posts, however, these ink fans quickly came to regret bragging. 

A hilarious gallery of images compiled by BoredPanda has revealed why you should always think before you ink - especially if you plan to showcase the results online.

The amusing screen shots showcase the brutal comebacks that illustrated people received when they shared their not-so-successful body art online.

In many cases, much to the devastation of the tattoo owner, friends pointed out a hard-to-fix mistakes including awkward spelling mistakes and inaccurate translations.

In other instances  a poor understanding of icons and logos left people with very unsuitable symbols as a permanent fixture on their anatomy.

While some mistakes were not immediately obvious, some amateur designs and bold inkings stuck out like a sore thumb.
