This Morning viewers slam mum with daughter in crop top
A single mother who has spent thousands of pounds on her seven-year-old daughter - who she says wants to be famous - was blasted for allowing her to appear on This Morning in a skimpy outfit.
Jenna Eastland, 31, of Newton Aycliffe, County Durham, believes her youngest daughter Layla Thompson is destined for a career in showbiz and has splashed out on make-up, fake tan and skimpy outfits.
But during an appearance on This Morning, during which she explained that it's Layla, and not her, who is chasing dreams of stardom, viewers complained that it was 'wrong' for Layla to be 'dressed like Katie Price' - with some accusing Jenna of 'sexualising' her daughter.
Even presenter Ruth Langsford questioned the appropriateness of her sparkly pink outfit - whi ch was cut away to reveal her stomach - but Jenna said she would happily let her dress like it every day.
Seven-year-old Layla Thompson appeared on This Morning in a skimpy crop top and white denim shorts - an outift which caused Ruth Langsford to question its inappropriateness
Single mother Jenna defended her daughter's appearance on the ITV daytime show saying she would allow her daughter to dress like that every day
Viewers heavily criticised Layla's look on the television programme suggesting she was 'dressed like Katie Price'
'How Layla's looking now, she's got lipstick, mascara and make-up on. This crop top, is it part of doing the dance, or would you let her dress like that everyday?' Ruth asked.
'I'd let her dress like that every day,' responded Jenna.
But Ruth probed further, asking: 'Do you not think that what she is wearing is too adult?'Â
'I know she is very athletic, I think she looks beautiful,' said Jenna.Â
'Iâve had comments like âoh youâre a paedophile enablerâ. But if youâre looking at my little girl in that way then I think thereâs something wrong with you, not Layla,' she snapped.Â
Still, viewers took to social media to criticise her approach, including one who wrote: 'I think it's wrong getting a 7 year old dressed like Katie Price.'Â
Those watching at home deemed her outfit unappropriate saying she looked more like a teenager and that her mother Jenna was pushing her towards fame
Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes posed with Layla on the couch as they wished her luck in her quest for fame
'Parents who make their little kids up to look like teenagers are disgusting,' fumed another.
'That poor child, dolled up like a tart and looking very uncomfortable,' added a third.
Jenna has said previously that she thinks her daughter, who appeared nervous and barely spoke during her stint on the sofa, would make a great reality star. Jenna added that she thinks that she is hard-working and not spoilt.
'Sheâs a bit overwhelmed today I think,' Jenna explained.
'On the train yesterday she was shouting âJerry Maguire show me the money!â she got free drinks, and she was like "yeah I've got free drinks now I'm famous.'
Splashing out: Mother Jenna said she spends a 'fortune' on cosmetics and costumes for Layla
Dressing up: Jenna said Layla never leaves the house without doing her hair and make-up
Family photographs capture Layla, who uses the stage name Layla Belle, posing in hair extensions, full make-up and midriff-baring costumes, but Jenna insists there is nothing wrong with the way her daughter looks.
She hit back at claims she is 'sexualising' her daughter, saying there is something 'seriously wrong' with anyone who can see a child that way. Â
'Layla's got a six pack so she loves wearing belly tops and shorts,' Jenna previously said. 'I guess people might think it's too young but it's just Layla.
'I get abuse all the time saying I'm sexualizing her, but I think that if people think that then there's something sadly wrong with them even thinking that about a kid.'Â
Layla, who is ho me schooled, regularly attends beauty pageants and dance competitions, often wearing spangly costumes that cost 'a fortune'.Â
Her mother said Layla 'has the mind set of an adult' and would rather experiment with beauty products than play with toys.Â
Jenna, who receives benefits as a full-time carer for children Noah, 10, and Brody, nine, who have autism, said Layla has even started to change her diet.Â
'She only eats the white of eggs because she saw on YouTube it's better for you and she likes yoga and ice tea,' she said.
